What is Activated Carbon

Although it sounds like something you’d use for a barbecue, activated charcoal is the latest odor absorbing trend. It’s made from carbon containing material, like wood. The wood material is then heated at high temperatures to create charcoal. The process known as “activation” is a method of treating the wood to expand the surface and increase oxygen levels. The porous structure of bamboo charcoal allows for odors to be absorbed into small holes of the charcoal. This is why bamboo charcoal odor absorbers work so well, they are a great natural resource with powerful odor absorbing abilities.

Activated Carbon

Activated charcoal is the byproduct of burning a carbon source like wood or bamboo. The material is activated by increasing the temperatures, removing all the oxygen which changes the chemical structure of the material to create smaller particles with more surface area. The result is a highly porous adsorbent material that attracts and bind poisons, heavy metals, chemicals, and gasses from odor producing bacteria.
