Air fresheners are consumer products used in homes, commercial setting and industrial areas. They are often used in restrooms to mitigate unpleasant odors. We are all exposed to air fresheners in some manner: homes, cars, office, toilets and public restrooms. Most of the time, air fresheners are placed in the toilets and cars. The use of air fresheners to deodorize and control odors are not always recommended in certain instances. Due to an air fresheners direct contribution as an indoor air contaminant, air fresheners should be used sparingly with adequate ventilation. This is especially true for elderly patients and our beloved pets who may be more sensitive to respiratory irritants.
With the development of new products like scented candles, battery-operated dispensers, plug-in devices and a multitude of scented aerosols, advertising and marketing of these products are aimed at convincing consumers that air fresheners are essential to a healthy and a good-smelling home.
