How to Control Oil Spills on Water

During a spill response, sensitive locations threatened by an advancing oil slick can be protected with various kinds of equipment and tactics. Absorbent socks are specifically designed to both absorb and control water and oil spills. Socks are tubular in nature and are formulated for oil only or universal (oil/water-based chemicals) usage. Oil Socks can be used in any industrial or automotive applications to maintain clean and safe work environments. These socks are designed to repel water while absorbing petroleum based fluids. They can be used to contain fluid leaks and spill from spreading on the floor. Oil-Only Socks will absorb petroleum based fluids while repelling water. Ideal for marine and routine industrial applications to contain and absorb oil leaks and spills. Keep absorbent socks handy to easily contain and absorb spills of oil. Socks wrap around corners, hug tightly against walls, and come in a range of sizes to suit the end user needs. Absorbent products are a mainstay of any spill control plan to keep unexpected messes from endangering people, facilities, and the environment. During larger oil spills when water is involved, you often see booms floating on water. These booms are acting as a physical barriers to oil. They are made of absorbent materials, which slow the spread of oil and keep it contained. Booms can deflect oil away from sensitive locations, such as beaches. There are essentially three types of booms; hard booms, fire booms and skimmers. Sorbent boom are similar to socks and are long tubular material that absorbs oil. If you were to take the inside of a disposable diaper out and roll it into strips, it would act much like a sorbent boom. Stay turned to learn more about absorbent booms.
