Activated Charcoal: Removing Poisonous Substances

Activated Charcoal have the same toxin removing effect on the air as it does when removing poisonous substances from the body. The porous structure of bamboo charcoal helps remove microscopic airborne bacteria by trapping the impurities inside each pore. Because the porous structure of charcoal has a negative electrical charge, positively charged molecules, such as toxins and gases bind to the charcoal. This helps it trap toxins and eliminate chemicals. Activated charcoal is a special form of carbon that can bind other substances on its surface known as adsorption. That is why it is used to adsorb drugs in the stomach so the drugs don't enter the body. Activated charcoal is made by burning carbon-rich materials, such as wood, coconut or bamboo, at very high temperatures to create charcoal. The resulting product is a black, odorless substance. The charcoal is then "activated" through a special process that makes lots of holes and crevices on the charcoal particles to increase surface area and available binding sites.
